Happy Earth Day 2010

On this 40th anniversary of Earth Day, I am reminded of Oprah’s Earth Day episode last year. I happened to walk past the television just as her guest was explaining the affect sea pollution was having on our oceans. I remember stopping whatever I was doing to watch that segment. They showed the layers and layers of trash in what is called the great pacific garbage swirl and explained how long-lasting plastics end up in the stomachs of marine birds and animals and how they were literally being strangled by the plastic bags and other trash that makes it’s way to the sea. Thanks to technology I was able to push the record button, capture the entire episode and watch it later with my son.

That segment as well as the programming on the Planet Green network helped our family to shift our consciousness beyond casual recycling to become more aware of our effects on the planet. In addition to continuing our recycling our eco-resolutions are to use non-toxic cleaning products, to conserve more energy and eat locally grown food.

If you are still deciding your eco-resolution here is a short video filled with ideas that will inspire you.

Happy Earth Day!
